How it works

days = (end date − start date), counted in whole days. Weeks = days ÷ 7.

For age, we count whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over – borrowing days from the previous month when needed.

Worked example

Born 15 March 2000, on 3 November 2026: from 15 March 2000 to 15 March 2026 is 26 years; to 15 October 2026 is 7 more months; then 19 days to 3 November. That's 26 years, 7 months and 19 days.

From Monday 2 November 2026 to Friday 25 December 2026 is 53 days, of which 38 are weekdays (counting the start date but not the end).

Common questions

How is age worked out?

In whole years, months and days, the way you'd say it out loud. Someone born on 15 March 2000 is 26 years, 7 months and 19 days old on 3 November 2026.

Does 'days between' include both dates?

By default it counts from the first date up to the second, so Monday to Friday is 4 days. Tick 'include the end date' if you want to count both, which gives 5.

Are public holidays left out of weekdays?

No – weekdays are Monday to Friday only. Public holidays differ by state and sometimes by region, so take those off yourself.

What happens when I add a month to 31 January?

There's no 31 February, so the date rolls back to the last day of February. Most banks and contracts treat it the same way.
